How to restore your wooden floors – Sussex Floor Restorations

Sussex Floor Restoration office flooring

Knowing that your wooden floors are in a state of disrepair is one thing, but actually knowing how to go about having them professionally restored to their former glory is another!

Without frequent maintenance, wooden floors can become damaged and unsightly over the years. Dirt build-up and general wear can impact the appearance of your floors significantly, with it being near impossible to tackle with household cleaning products.

Knowing what your floor needs isn’t easy. As industry professionals, we offer a range of expert services that we know will get your floors looking like new again. We’ve detailed our easy 5 step process that all Sussex Floor Restoration clients go through below. It’s tried, trusted, and designed to fit around your schedule.

Step 1 – Enquiry

The process starts as it means to go on – keeping things super simple! Reach out to us via our ‘Contact Us’ page, or if you’d prefer, give one of our friendly team a call to talk through your flooring situation. Our contact number is Tel:

If we’re out on a project, either Adam or Ross will follow up with you as soon as possible. It’s at this point that we get a general idea of the scope of the project, and you can ask any questions you might have for us.

Step 2 – Quote & Survey

Having discussed what type of service you’re looking for, we then have to gather a good idea of what type of flooring we’re working with. Hardwood floors are susceptible to damp or may have significant damage through external factors such as furniture. The quote we provide will take into account the current state of the flooring.

We will also work up the technical requirements for the job. We use the best industry standard equipment on our jobs. Depending on what equipment we need to use on your floors, we will factor this into our final quote.

Finally, we will give you some instructions on how to best prepare your room for our arrival. This will include moving furniture so that we have full access to the entire floor.

Step 3 – The Works

Once we’re good to go, we’ll start by sanding your wood floor. This is standard practise for any floor restoration project as it allows us to start the job off with a nice even surface. To achieve the best results, we use the highest standard sanding machines.

Depending on what state the flooring is in to begin with, we may have to fill in any gaps on the surface. This, similar to the sanding process, means the wood is as even as possible before applying a finish. If these gaps are not filled, there could be a build-up of oil or dirt over time that really doesn’t look very nice at all!

We will give you several finish options, applying a small sample to a sanded section of your floor. Once the finish has been chosen, we will go ahead with applying it to the entire floor.

The time taken to complete this will largely depend on the scale of the job and the surface area we are working on.

Step 4 – Aftercare

Once the job is done, our attention turns to maintaining your fantastic looking restored floors. The better maintained your wood floors are, the less likely we’ll have to come out again anytime soon. Good aftercare will prolong the life of your flooring and save you money in the long run.

To help you stay on top of this, we’ll provide you with your own tailored aftercare guide by Pallman – the industries leading authority on wood flooring.

Step 5 – The Results

This isn’t really a step that involves us, but it’s the one you’ve been waiting for. The finished product!

Sit back and enjoy your beautifully restored floor, knowing that it’ll stay that way for years to come.
