Don’t cut corners when restoring your hardwood floor

We all love a great deal, there’s little doubt about that. That said, there’s a difference between striking up a great price for a great service on your hardwood floor, and simply paying less through cutting corners.

This is a challenge so many of our clients face. Hiring a ‘Jack of all trades’ may seem like a safe bet and a cost-effective option, but it doesn’t always work out like that. Handymen are, by name, very handy. Sometimes though, they can bite off a bit more than they can chew.

The following case study will ring true with a lot of our clients, and perhaps even yourself. By hiring non-industry experts, you’re setting yourself up to pay more in the long run when it comes to amending their mistakes. It may seem like you’re getting a bargain deal, but you’re essentially getting what you pay for; an unprofessional service.

Hardwood floor Case Study

This project wasn’t just a straightforward restoration of a heavily worn floor, we were also tasked with rectifying a questionable job done by a handyman not long before. With that, bear in mind that these ‘before’ photos are actually the previous companies ‘after’ photos!

The overall aim of this project was to lighten and restore the clients solid oak floor, and also get rid of the inconsistent finish and random sanding marks from the last service.

We started by sanding a test patch. We did this so the customer could see the range of finishes on their floor and could make an informed decision on which they like best.

We then sanded the floor to remove the poorly applied finish. Doing this leaves the wood bare, allowing us to have an even and clear surface before we begin with the coating itself. You’ll notice how different the floor looks just from the sanding process.

We then applied the customer’s choice of coating, transforming the floor completely. Just look at the difference in the two pictures below!

The customers were over the moon with the finish, and were even kind enough to leave us this wonderful testimonial…

They are simple, super-efficient, really friendly guys. Really easy to work with and very helpful. I would certainly recommend them.”

If you’re looking to restore and maintain your hardwood floors, you’re best opting with the professionals first time around. Handymen are an excellent option when it comes to so many jobs around your home, but without wealth of experience and knowledge in this area, floor restoration isn’t one of them.
