Sanding & Restoring

The timeline depends on the size of the area and the condition of the floorboards. On average, it takes one to two days.

Floor sanding is generally suitable for most solid wood and engineered wood floors. However, it’s essential to consult with professionals like Sussex Floor Restoration to assess your specific flooring needs.

Walking on the floor will depend on what finish you have, and can be as soon as 3-4 hours.

It depends on the foot traffic and wear level, but generally, every 5-7 years is recommended.

Yes, you can choose a different stain colour to achieve a fresh look.

Yes, sanding the floorboards is essential to remove any existing finish, smoothen imperfections, and prepare the surface for staining.

We don’t recommend restoring your wooden floorboards yourself as it is a big project that needs a professional team to carry it out. We have all the equipment and knowledge to do this for you, leaving your floors perfect!

We usually arrive around 8:30-9am depending on you location and will finish by 3-3:30pm each day. You should receive a text message letting you know we are on our way and our time of arrival. How long the work will take is detailed in your quote, but these are estimates and talking to the team onsite will give you a better idea of when we may finish.

We do require all the spaces we are working in to be clear before we arrive. The coatings we use are wet and once coated it makes it almost impossible for furniture to be on the floor in the room we are working. Unless otherwise agreed, we cannot help moving furniture but can recommend a great local moving company that can help.

When we have a clear room, we only then require a few good plug points for our machines and good access to the room we are working in. Unless otherwise agreed to spilt the work in to sections, we will be working on all the floors that have been quoted at once. We also require provision to park at or close to your property. If parking permits are required, please provide these if possible.

While we are working in your property, you can come and go as you please as long as it’s with clean feet/shoes and no spillages. The only crucial times to keep off the floor is just before, and when we are coating the floor.

As mentioned, we are a 98% dustless service. This can decrease though when making repairs, sanding stairs, or sanding very uneven surfaces. The noise level is comparable to a loud vacuum and vibrations through the floor can be loud if there are rooms below where we are working.

Its best if pets can be kept out of the way of the rooms we are working in for the duration of the restoration, but most importantly while we are coating and while coatings are drying.

Drying times will vary depending on the products used, wood species, temperature, and humidity. On average, most of our coatings, once completed will be dry for light foot traffic in 2-3 hours. Use your judgement and if in doubt, leave as long as possible.

Each product we use have different curing times. On average, 2k oil finishes will be fully cured in 24hours and lacquers can take 4-6 days.

Moving your furniture back in is usually always possible the following day. Very heavy furniture should be left until the coatings are fully cured. Avoid using furniture movers like rollers and sliders until the floor is fully cured and any aids should be designed for wood floors. Either screw in or stick on felt feet should be used for furniture legs where possible.
