Period Floor Restoration In Sussex

Period floor restoration in Sussex. If you own an old house, (perhaps it could even be a grade 2 listed building!) chances are your home may feature period flooring, such as parquet flooring; However, over time, period flooring will need to be restored to its former glory.

Regular maintenance and cleaning will be essential to keep it in the best shape possible. But old parquet flooring eventually needs to be freshened up – chips, wear and tear, marks and stains will all gather over the years.

The Benefits

By bringing life back to your flooring, it will look as if it is brand new again, making your rooms look truly bespoke. The difference from run-down flooring to fully restored flooring, once we have finished a job, is night and day!

If you are planning to sell your property, it could also be a strong selling point for someone who has a keen eye for more classic buildings. Potential buyers will be able to see that your home features fully restored period flooring throughout it.

The Process

To begin with, we will check the floor to see if there are any loose blocks, planks or any other issues that will need fixing, and get it sorted before any sanding or coating happens.

Once the issues are resolved, the next step for us is to sand down the floor to the desired outcome. This is achieved with our 98% dustless method, which is broken down into multiple steps of sanding with different levels of grit abrasive.

The first session of sanding uses a low-level grit to remove the current finish and smooth out any damage. In some cases, parquet blocks rise, so we level them out where possible here as well.

The dust that we save from sanding we will then mix with filler to cover any gaps and holes that are left. This will also make the floor far easier to maintain in the future.

The next step is to move up the grit levels for a second sanding to get to the desired outcome before applying the coating.

The last step, which is always the fun part is applying the coating. Whether it is a lacquer, oil or stain, each coat is different and will result in different effects; However, we will always discuss them with you so you know what will work best for your home.
