Parquet Floor Restoration – Our Process
Parquet floor restoration when restored correctly will not only look beautiful but can also add value to your home.
The fabulous thing about wooden flooring is that it is often just waiting to be discovered under old carpets.
If you find yourself in possession of a beautiful parquet floor, with a herringbone or geometric pattern or another design, we have compiled a step-by-step guide to restoring it to its former glory.
Step 1 – Parquet Wood Flooring Inspection
To understand the full extent of the work required, we would, first of all, begin by carrying out a full inspection of the floor. Then check for any imperfections, loose blocks, and any damage that will need to be fixed.
We will also be able to provide a realistic quote and understand your requirements and vision by carrying out this inspection. We feel it is important to listen to our client’s unique requests since everyone is different.
A comprehensive care guide is also provided on how to look after your floor so it stands the test of time.
Step 2 – Decide On Finish
We also offer our clients the option of a test patch of coatings so they can decide which finish they prefer and which works best within their property. This could include anything from dark wood parquet flooring to grey parquet flooring. There are lots of options to choose from!
Step 3 – Fix Loose Blocks And Other Issues
Once the inspection has been carried out, we will then arrange a date to come back and start the work!
We will first of all begin fixing any loose blocks that you may have. This is a common procedure as when the wood expands over time this can cause the blocks to rise and displace. Depending on the condition of the wood, some areas may need replacing altogether.
Step 4 – Sand The Hardwood Floor
The next step is to sand the floor! At Sussex Floor Restoration we provide dustless wood floor sanding. Dustless extraction technology is used to achieve a 98% dustless service!
When clients come to us, many of them initially ask for us to restore their floor without sanding it down, however, when they hear that it no longer needs to be messy or dusty they quickly change their mind.
Step 5 – Fill The Floor
Solid hardwood floor will then be filled once the sanding stage has been completed. We use the dust collected during the sanding process and mix this with a filler. We will then apply this to any nooks, gaps, and crevices we find. This will create a beautifully smooth finish.
Step 6 – Sand Again
We will then apply a higher abrasive than previously used and will sand to the required level for the desired finish and coating.
Step 7 – Apply The Finish
The chosen finish will then be applied to the floor. Options include lacquers, oil, or wax as well as stains, allowing our clients to achieve the look they deserve.
