In this blog, we will be going through the process for one specific floor, pine parquet flooring, that needed a bit more attention than the others.
We recently had the opportunity to work on a restoration project at Roedean School, based in Brighton. The project involved restoring a variety of floors throughout the school.
Pine parquet flooring restoration
The flooring was based in the music classroom and had seen better days! There were hollow spots and moving blocks at various points over the floor, and the finish had completely worn off, leaving the floor looking dull and dirty.
With the impending delivery of a new grand piano, timing was crucial. We had to ensure that the restoration work was completed between the removal of the old piano and the delivery of the new one.
Undeterred by the challenge, and taking it in our stride, we managed to finish the job in just 2 days. Meaning it was ready for when the new piano arrived!
The process of pine parquet flooring restoration
The floor restoration process began with fixing the loose areas of the parquet floor, making sure it was safe and secure. We then proceeded to sand the entire floor to remove the damage and soiling. The sanding process helps to level the floor and create a smooth surface ready for the next step.
After sanding, we oiled the floor with a 2K oil system, which has many benefits for this kind of flooring area.
The customer and we think the oil looks fantastic! It enhances the natural warmth and beauty of the wood, whilst the ultra matte finish gives a nice feel to the floor and a touch of elegance.
Maintaining the pine parquet flooring
The great thing about this floor, and our restoration process, is that it can be easily maintained once we’re finished.
This is vital, as having a grand piano in the room means you need a floor that is easy to clean and maintain, without having to move it around once a year!
